Nostalgia Nerd explores the history of the Commodore Amiga, from its early Lorraine prototype phase to its launch in the 1980s.

What goes up, must come down... Welcome to the story of the Commodore Amiga. This is part 1 of a 2 part documentary exploring the history and story of the mighty Amiga from its conception through to its buyout by Commodore. This episode deals with the "up" part of the story, and takes place during the 1980s. It charts the conception of the Lorraine machine (that would become the first Commodore Amiga), the early years and team spent working on the machine, the buyout of Atari followed by Commodore, the launch of the original Commodore Amiga machine (later renamed the Amiga 1000) and the subsequent Amiga 2000 and Amiga 500 machines which conclude before 1989 is out. In the second part, we'll look at the 1990s, when the Amiga peaked and then fell to its regrettable demise. ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! On “Buying an Amiga 30 years later”

As someone who cut my teeth on an A500, I have quite the soft spot for all things Amiga. I came across a wonderful documentary of the Amiga saga on Youtube: Amiga Story by Nostalgia Nerd Part 1: link to this video Part 2: link

Nostalgia Nerd. This is his one about the Atari ST: link And the Amiga (Part 1 of 2) link to this video I don't watch a lot of this stuff anymore because I've seen the story told quite a few times. Then there is Kim Justice, who does "History of <Games Company>" style videos. link

Some other pointers: "Fire in the Valley", "Soul of a New Machine", everything Maher has published on link , "Where Wizards Stay Up Late", the stories at link about the Macintosh. But bear in mind that the Mac became big, which is why it's easy to find Mac stories. There are similar stories about other communities too, though harder to find. For example, here's a 2-part story about the Amiga - link to this video . As a reminder, don't only read books about success, but also failure. "Startup: A Silicon Valley Adventure", about an early pen-based platform in the 1990s. And there's fiction, like "Microserfs".
