Arne Brasseur demonstrates how to use Malli schemas as a single source of truth for database schemas, validation, and frontend synchronization.

This video is part of the first CEST (Clojure European Summer Time) meetup on 2 June 2020. Link: clojureverse.org/t/new-online-meetup-clojure-european-summer… Abstract: Developers don’t like to repeat themselves, and yet we do it all the time. A typical application will encode information about the entities it deals with in half a dozen places: database schemas, API definitions, test factories, forms. What if you could replace all that with a single source of truth? In a recent client projects we decided to pursue this idea by starting with a single EDN file containing Malli schemas. Everything else flowed from there, Datomic and DataScript schemas, synchronization between front and backend, form definitions, SpecMonstah schemas, and of course validation. When doing this you can’t be too rigid, since different contexts call for different variations of the schemas. Using Malli gave us the flexibility we needed to rapidly deliver a polished application.

What people say. Recommended as a great case study of using Malli for a single source of truth across the stack.

…it comes time to migrate to Spec 2, since they'll all need to upgrade. Malli won't have that problem quite so much, because its development cycle is simpler and focused on the core library. 8. Here's a story from someone using Malli to try to achieve a "single source of truth" for their data that encompassed the front-end, back-end, and database [video He considers it a success, and there is something attractive about being able to codify all of that stuff in a few maps. I can't decide if that's "tight coupling" and therefore bad or "single source of truth" and therefore good…
