Bryan Cantrill reflects on the first decade of container technology, its evolution from early OS virtualization to Docker, and its impact on infrastructure.

Bryan Cantrill, CTO at Joyent The Container Revolution: Reflections After the First Decade The meteoric rise of Docker brought containers into the limelight over the past couple of years, but container technology has been powering mobile and web apps for at least a decade. How has the container ecosystem evolved over the past 10 years and where do we go from here as we look toward the future of infrastructure? -- If you liked this video and want to see more from HashiCorp, subscribe to our channel: youtube.com/c/HashiCorp?sub_confirmation=1 To learn more, visit our hands-on interactive lab environment, HashiCorp Learn: learn.hashicorp.com/ HashiCorp is the leader in multi-cloud infrastructure automation software. On “Linux has officially won”

In terms of tech stack, yes this is nice. But what is containerization solving, which wasn’t in the “problem set” for an OS? Not that Linux failed, but the fact that we can’t get multi tenancy and portability to actually work at scale shows that there are some wrong abstractions at the OS level that we are paying for with containerization.
