Joe Albahari demonstrates how to build a neural network for image recognition from scratch in C# using LINQPad without external libraries.

The best way to understand neural networks is to get your hands dirty and write one. In this session, I'll show you how to code up a neural net for image recognition from scratch - all in C#, and without using any libraries. From the bottom up, we'll discover gradient descent, activation functions, and backpropagation. We'll work entirely in LINQPad - with no complex maths, no Python, and no libraries. And you'll get to keep the code! NDC Conferences ndcsydney.com ndcconferences.com

On “The Case for Doing Machine Learning with F#”

As someone with little experience in this domain I found it a fascinating read. There's a big push on Python at work currently because of its machine learning libraries, but F# integrates better for me. I'll probably end up doing a mix of both :) BTW, this is tangential but also fun writing a neural network from scratch in c#
