Chris Forno builds an implementation of djb's redo build system from scratch in Haskell.

Let's build an implementation of djb's redo from scratch in Haskell. In this, the first episode, I'll explain what the purpose of the program is, write some initial code, and create a GitHub repository for you to follow along with if you want. Just to clarify, the book I was writing is the basis for this video series. I don't plan to publish the book because I think the material is better served by videos. However, maybe there will be a different book in the future... What people say. Highly recommended for developers wanting to learn Haskell through a practical, step-by-step project.

On “A Lazy Evaluation – Why I Find Learning Haskell Hard”

I haven't ever done anything too significant in Haskell, but the Jekor Redo 1 videos are fantastic, and demonstrate the slow building up of more complicated things than "reverse this string." I haven't watched his xmonad 2 or pandoc 3 videos yet, but I would bet that they are highly worthwhile as well. - 1: link to this video - 2: link - 3: link

On “Getting It Done with Haskell”

There's definitely a stage when you want to graduate from bottom-up tinkering & learning the underlying concepts to making things -- this is where I feel there's a big gap in the haskell materials right now. There's some great screncasts though which have been helpful. link - Implement a sed clone in Haskell (a bit broken towards the end but a great look at a small incremental project) link to this video - implementing redo in Haskell

On “Redo: A recursive, general-purpose build system”

Chris Forno (jekor) made an implementation of djb's redo in Haskell. The videos of him live coding it are on YouTube, and I recommended it for anyone wanting to learn Haskell. link to this video
