Douglas Lowder explains how to run React Native applications on Apple TV and tvOS, detailing the differences from iOS.

How can we run React Native apps on the Apple TV? Douglas Lowder, principal software engineer at Salesforce, the creator and maintainer of the React Native Apple TV port, explains how he did. Don’t forget to subscribe: bit.ly/2EHSdU7 Here is his presentation, which was itself a real app running on a real Apple TV device. There are a lot of advantages to port React Native applications into Apple TV: many apps built in React Native for iOS can work on Apple TV with just a few changes. However, there are important differences between iOS and tvOS that need to be understood before building a React Native tvOS application. Douglas Lowder explains all the hurdles he had to overcome. He also demonstrates how to customize parallax animations, how to add a custom handler for the TV remote control, and UI tips. At the end of the talk, he shows the work currently being done to make React Native work on Android TV as well. You will find below all the documentation useful for porting React Native, on the big screen, into Apple TV. Enjoy!
