An investigation into how rising component prices and AI data center demand are eroding consumer PC ownership and the hardware industry.

In this investigation into the destruction of PC ownership through excessive consumer pricing as AI companies go post-consumer. We flew around the world to to line-up interviews to learn about the collapse of the PC industry. Memory and storage prices are higher than ever, and companies with no control over the silicon components are left to flounder at a fraction of their typical sales volume. As a backdrop, the possibility of owning a personal computer is disintegrating in real-time as data centers fuel a shortage and try to offer more compelling cloud compute options than owning your own computer. Executives of AI companies have made clear now more than ever that this is the plan: NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang waxes poetic about "personal AI instead of personal computers" and says personal computing is computing of the past; AMD embeds itself with the US Government and SuperPAC MAGA INC as it furthers efforts to reduce consumer protections. On “It's not about physical vs. digital games, it's about ownership”

Unfortunately the AI bubble means we are witnessing the death of PC gaming. Watch the GamersNexus video, The Collapse of Personal Computing: link to this video Costs are driving manufacturers out of business. Essential components for PCs are becoming out of reach for the average consumer. You will own nothing and be happy.

On “32GB of DDR5 now costs $375 – AI shortage continues to squeeze PC building”

GN did a documentary on the situation from the perspective of consumer-facing companies. Seems pretty dire for them, and it's hard to see the long-range consequences, but the idea of consumers being priced out isn't too far out, which to me is a little alarming. link to this video

On “Jensen Huang Just Told Every CEO Hiding Behind AI Layoffs to Shut Up”

Watching Jensen stick his junk in it and say again and again and again the PC market is going to be crushed forever and eve and ever and him being delighted about it feels barely any better. It's way way longer a video than feels useful, but there's quite the stream of quotes from Jensen relishing in fucking over everyone except the titanscalers, with gleefully predictions it will destroy every other form of computing forever. link to this video
