Ray Puzio demonstrates his implementation of turtle graphics in Emacs Lisp and explains how to manipulate buffers for drawing.

Ray Puzio shows us his implementation of turtle graphics in emacs and takes us under the shell to see how it works. Turtle graphics are a way of drawing pictures in which one provides a series of directions such as "move forward" or "turn left" to steer the pen. (The name comes from the fact that the original implementation involved a robotic turtle as an output device controlled by the computer.) In addition to providing a useful and entertaining program, this talk also discusses techniques of pbm graphics and the use of a buffer for drawing which are of general use when doing graphics in emacs.

Emacs and turtle graphics I recently was showing my 6 year old daughter a handful of basic lisp snippets when she got interested in what I'm doing at the computer all day - and she was somewhat interested. While thinking about how to entertain her on the upcoming trip to the grandparents in a few days I remembered turtle graphics from when I was small. A quick search revealed that Ray Puzio indeed implemented turtle graphics in emacs - with the sources uploaded to emacsturtle.metameso.org back in 2014, but the page is long gone. The talk should be enough to piece it together - if I had enough time before the trip, and this wasn't such a last minute idea. Does anybody reading here accide…
