By the end of this session, not only will you understand the process of finding and modifying specific game functions, but you'll also learn how to create a one-hit kill hack, a powerful demonstration of reverse engineering. Everything needed to follow along, including files and scripts, will be detailed in the description below the video. We begin by locating an entity within Assault Cube to find its health attribute, which we then track within Cheat Engine to see what interacts with this data when the entity takes damage. This investigation leads us to a specific function, the "do damage" function, that we then analyze further in Ida. Here, by entering the function's address and converting the assembly code to pseudocode, we can better understand its mechanics and start hypothesizing about various parts of the code, particularly which segments might be handling health and damage calculations. During the process, we implement a series of tests to confirm our hypotheses about the function's role in managing health and damage. For instance, by setting breakpoints and observing how the game behaves when these breakpoints are triggered, we can validate our understanding of the function. This methodical approach of assumption and validation is crucial in reverse engineering, as it confirms that we're modifying the correct aspects of the game's code. Video Game Reverse Engineering FAQ What is video game reverse engineering? Video game reverse engineering involves analyzing a game's software to understand its mechanics, processes, and functionalities without having access to the original source code. This practice is often used to enhance game features, fix bugs, or modify game behavior. What are the top game reverse engineering tools? Cheat Engine, ReClass.NET, IDA Pro, Ghidra Is game reverse engineering hard? Yes, game reverse engineering can be challenging. It requires a strong understanding of programming, software structures, and sometimes complex algorithms. However, with practice and the right tools, the process can become more manageable.
