Sebastian Lague explains how he implemented realistic atmospheric scattering and planetary atmospheres in Unity.

The planets in my solar system project are looking a bit hostile and uninviting, so in this video I'll be attempting to add some cozy atmospheres around them. Watch the previous solar system video: here: youtu.be/lctXaT9pxA0 Some notes: • I made a little build where you can play with the atmosphere settings yourself, which you can find over here if you're interested: sebastian.itch.io/atmosphere-experiment • A number of knowledgeable people have pointed out in the comments that reality is not nearly as simple as my little diagram around the 4 and a half minute mark, and that light does not literally wiggle up and down like a wave, so please note that the diagram is incorrect! • This project was inspired by the game Outer Wilds, which I highly recommend playing! Questions on workflow (of Sebastian Lague) Some of you may know Sebastian Lague, the "coding adventures" guy I am wondering about his workflow. I'm a proficient programmer, but know very little about graphics. I see some great potential here for visualization of scientific data (I'm a PhD student in atmospheric science), but I don't know anything about these tools. I am used to rendering static visualizations via Python, but I love how Sebastian uses Unity (I think?) to code and then *interact* with visualizations/simulations. That is, I'm used to implementing simulations/representations of data in 3D space and then projecting them into a static 2D visualization; Unity seems to instead a…
