A demonstration of BREAD, an injectable real-mode x86 debugger, debugging an AMI BIOS at runtime over a serial cable.

Project: github.com/Theldus/bread BREAD is an 'injectable' real-mode x86 debugger that can debug arbitrary real-mode code (on real HW) from another PC via serial cable. BREAD allows you to: - Read and write memory - Read and write registers - Single-Step and continue - Breakpoints - Hardware Watchpoints In this video, I show BREAD debugging an AMI BIOS, at runtime, and changing the memory address that contains the CPU name string.

Why it's here

What people say. Recommended as a useful tool and demo for debugging real-mode code, bootloaders, or BIOS on real hardware.

…OS ROM and start debugging from there. Moreover, it can be used to debug bootable code (such as bootloaders) or even DOS programs on real HW via serial port, provided that the code runs on real mode. Said that, I believe this debugger might be useful for some osdevers, and that's why I thought of sharing it here. There is a quick demo video here: link to this video…
