Techno Tim demonstrates how to set up a highly available k3s Kubernetes cluster for homelab or production use.

Have you been thinking about running Kubernetes but don't know where to get started? Let's start with k3s! k3s is a highly optimized distribution of Kubernetes that can run on ARM, IoT, Raspberry Pis, or even x86 hardware. It's small, lightweight, and gives you all the features in Kubernetes! Join me as we set up k3s for your homelab or production use! Looking for the etcd version? On “RKE2 Server high availability”

So the HA-Proxy would be for the control plane like kube-vip unless it has some way of being provisioned by K8S directly. The LoadBalancer service type is for workloads you deploy via K8S and results in that workload being allocated an IP that outside users can connect to directly (think ClusterIP except this is available outside of the cluster as well). Edit: Here are some videos of installing clusters that might help you understand. In my experience, I had to watch them a few times after going through the docs to be able to apply them, but they should be good enough for the basics. HA K3S Another HA K3S HA RKE2
