A demonstration of Conway's Game of Life implemented using the rule-based puzzle mechanics of the game Baba Is You.
After @mattar0d built cellular automaton rule 110 in Baba Is You, I thought I'd try Game of Life. It's been done before but I wanted to build one that (a) is fairly intuitive to understand, and (b) theoretically works as a real Baba Is You level. Something light, fun and different, and probably a bit on the edge of being on-topic for this sub: the developer of the game Baba Is You¹ talks about how he implemented the rules of the game.
While probably not to everyone's interest, I think it might be an interesting topic for some people on this sub for multiple reasons:
- Baba Is You is a puzzle game that uses very simple language-like "rule blocks" to rewrite the game rules of the level on the fly. It turns out that the game is Turing complete - see this Game of Life example or this binary adder. The block-based nature of the environment is quite unlike the typical programming environments we know.
- Building on the previous poin…
