A restored and colorized historical film of Paris from the late 1890s, enhanced using neural networks for upscaling and colorization.

Upscaled with neural networks footage from the dawn of film taken in Belle Époque-era Paris, France from 1896-1900. You can reach me here: 💌 shir-man.com ✔ FPS boosted to 60 frames per second; ✔ Image resolution boosted up to 4k – with digital artifacts, but some parts are improved noticeable, I'm preparing new dataset for that process, 4k is till in beta; ✔ Improved video sharpness; ✔ Colorized – I'm still unsure about it, but regarding to high request from the subscribers I decided to use DeOldify NN again on this video. If you don't like how DeOldify doing colorization, please let me know in the comments, I will upload b&w version and put a link here. ⚠ Please, be aware that colorization colors are not real and fake, colorization was made only for the ambiance and do not represent real historical data. Source video (with ambiance sound) – please subscribe to guy jones channel, he is doing an amazing job in ambiance sound adding: youtu.be/NjDclfAFRB4 ______ Please, keep in mind that 4k resolution playback mostly not available on the phones. #Paris #1890 #upscale #old

On “When cities treated cars as dangerous intruders”

It is worth noting that streets were dangerous even before cars. For instance, Pierre Curie (Nobel prize and husband of Marie Curie) was killed by a horse-powered truck in the streets of Paris in 1906. He was 46. But pedestrians at that time had the freedom to walk in the middle of the street at any time. You can clearly see it in this fascinating video of Paris in late 1890s: link to this video

On “Paris to ‘get rid of 70k parking spaces’”

Old film footage suggests to me that it was just more "lanes" and in general more chaotic, e.g.: link to this video link

On “Rue de l'Avenir”

There's a video at the bottom of the article apparently shot by Thomas Edison in August 1900. YouTube has a couple more of them link Here's also an AI-upscaled/-colorized video which contains a bit of the boardwalk. link to this video
