3DSage teaches how to build a basic Wolfenstein 3D-style raycaster engine using C and OpenGL.

I'm happy to share my raycaster video with you! I hope you learn something, or find it interesting and stay tuned for more fun videos! What people say. Recommended as a classic, easy-to-follow tutorial for beginners wanting to build their first raycasting engine.

…o make a game with a style similar to Doom, which is why I temporarily named the project doom. * The project allows adding new platform layers easily, since I plan to try running it on a calculator later. I also experimented with running the game in the terminal, and it worked. Learning resources: 1. https://lodev.org/cgtutor/raycasting.html 2. [video As for the software rendering, those are skills I picked up from various scattered sources.…

I want to do Raycasting (like Wolfenstein 3D), but I don't know where to start lol Recently, I found out that Notch (creator of Minecraft) did some coding streams in the past, and one of them was coding a game called The Prelude of the Chambered. Then I remembered about Wolfenstein 3D and did some research to see if I could find a simple tutorial about doing the same rendering technique, which is called raycasting. The first thing I found was this horrible tutorial, this, and this. But after looking at all of them I realized that it is more complicated than... idk... using a projection matrix to render a cube in 2D (yep, i did this). So, I want to know if there is a way of a beginner i…

Player rotation bug in a raycaster I'm following a raycasting tutorial by 3DSage (The first part) and, for some reason, the player seems to be rotating in a weird way. Could someone tell me why? https://reddit.com/link/1tfynhn/video/d3r79wirvq1h1/player Here's the code for the few parts that could cause it: #define PI 3.14159265358979323846 float px,py,pdx, pdy,pa; //player position void drawPlayer() { glColor3f(1,1,0); glPointSize(8); glBegin(GL_POINTS); glVertex2i(px,py); glEnd(); glLineWidth(3); glBegin(GL_LINES); glVertex2i(px,py); glVertex2i(px+pdx*5, py+pdy*5); glEnd(); } void buttons(unsigned char ke…

On “beginner projects”

Do what you think is fun. When you are first starting out, your main goal is to get hooked on programming. To do something you find fun, and cool, so you do more. You don't want to do something boring and drug out as one of your first projects. For example, quite literally the first programming project I EVER did (even before I figured out how to do the classic Hello World) was following [this tutorial on "How To Make Your Own Raycaster" like Wolfenstein 3D by 3D Sage.] This project is the ONLY reason I continue to program now. Because I was clueless, it was hard, but it was damn fun, and damn cool. I, eventually, to learn more about what I did, went line by line and thoroughly documented e…
