Károly Zsolnai-Fehér explains research on using convolutional neural networks to dramatically accelerate Eulerian fluid and smoke simulations.

The paper "Accelerating Eulerian Fluid Simulation With Convolutional Networks" and its source code is available here: cims.nyu.edu/~schlacht/CNNFluids.htm users.cg.tuwien.ac.at/zsolnai/accelerating-eulerian-fluid-si… github.com/google/FluidNet The mentioned previous work has used an SPH-based Lagrangian simulation, performed the regression with regression forests, and the process also has included a fair amount of feature engineering. It is an excellent piece of work by the name "Data-driven Fluid Simulations using Regression Forests" and is a highly recommended read: inf.ethz.ch/personal/ladickyl/fluid_sigasia15.pdf youtube.com/watch?v=kGB7Wd9CudA Video credits: Surface-Only Liquids - youtube.com/watch?v=-rf_MDh-FiE&list=PLujxSBD-JXgnnd16wIjedA… Schrödinger's Smoke - youtube.com/watch?v=heY2gfXSHBo&list=PLujxSBD-JXgnnd16wIjedA… Thumbnail image background credit: pixabay.com/photo-889131/ WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK OUR GENEROUS PATREON SUPPORTERS WHO MAKE TWO MINUTE PAPERS POSSIBLE: Sunil Kim, Daniel John Benton, Dave Rushton-Smith, Benjamin Kang. patreon.com/TwoMinutePapers Subscribe if you would like to see more of these! - youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=keeroyz Music: Dat Groove by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Artist: audionautix.com/ Splash screen/thumbnail design: Felícia Fehér - felicia.hu Károly Zsolnai-Fehér's links: Facebook → facebook.com/TwoMinutePapers/ Twitter → twitter.com/karoly_zsolnai Web → cg.tuwien.ac.at/~zsolnai/

What people say. Recommended as an early example of deep learning being applied to accelerate complex 3D physics and graphics rendering.

On “Linear logic and deep learning [pdf]”

Linear Logic is amazing-ly useful, link Rust 0 wouldn't exist without it. Oddly enough, I think the next discontinuity in programming language design will be in making it easier to construct anytime 1, incremental 2 and succinct 3 programs. There is a tyranny of poor tolerancing that we currently have a very hard time from escaping. Is it that differentiable programs can be made sloppy in a way that a non-differentiable one can't?
