On “Open source projects?”

I am personally pretty excited about Alex Forencich's Corundum project (which is the open source 100Gbps NIC out of UCSD). Github Link Even though RISC-V isn't "directly" related, IIRC in the last Corundum meeting Youtube Link Alex had mentioned talking about using a vexriscv soft-core to offload some basic BMC functionality (to offer up board-dependent diagnostics, parameter tunings, bringup, resets, eyescans). To first order, this is an excellent chance to work w/ a group of talented FPGA devs plus you get to play w/ and learn about the Xilinx GTY which is arguably one of the more important hard-macros in an FPGA.
