A dollar store fiber optic wand is turned into a high-speed, low-resolution display using custom pixel mapping.

Turning a dollar store fibre optic wand into a low resolution display. The odd layout at the driven end is to maximise the brightness and refresh rate. The whole display can be refreshed in just 4 row updates, which means it's capable of 90,000 frames per second (at an extremely low resolution, admittedly). I thought I could use this for a volumetric display, but it turned out to be more stiff and fragile than I'd hoped. Instead it's just a curiosity. The pixel mapping code is available here: gist.github.com/AncientJames/31faf6852ea50176702ac05153de499… Bonus footage here: youtube.com/watch?v=yhu2piERtdk
