Maciej Matyka explains how to use GPU compute shaders in OpenFrameworks to simulate fluid dynamics and reaction-diffusion systems.

This talk was given last friday (4.02.2022) at local polish LBM workshop in Kraków (LBM in Krakow 2022) organized at AGH. Here I present two tutorials on GPU Compute Shaders for Simulations of fluids, diffusion reaction etc. . Tutorials describe the Gray Scott reaction diffusion and fluid flows in 3D using the Lattice Boltzmann Method. I briefly introduce the concept of GPU, shaders, OpenFrameworks used as graphics API and then describe how to work with both tutorials. Plan: Intro What is GPU? Why Compute Shaders? Intruduction to Open Frameworks Tutorial 1 (Gray Scott) starts here Starting Open Frameworks code Gray-Scott model details Buffer allocation on GPU GPU buffer bindings explained with wires Textures in OF The Shader related code starts here (loading, linging, ping-pong, dispatch) The Compute shader for Gray-Scott The result Gray-Scott model (run live) Gray-Scott with bumpmapping (run live) The Lattice Boltzmann in 2D (run live) Tutorial 2 on 3D fluids with Lattice Boltzmann starts here 3D LBM realtime (run live) Surprise - 3D multiphase volumetric rendered CFD Wrocław #9 invitro with music from n1k-o The tutorials with code can be found under these links: 1: maciej-matyka.medium.com/gpu-compute-shaders-in-open-framewo… 2: maciej-matyka.medium.com/gpu-compute-shaders-part-2-fluids-d… (1 copy on blogspot): maciejmatyka.blogspot.com/2022/01/compute-shaders-in-open-fr… The talk was originaly given for local polish workshop LBM in Kraków organized at AGH. Unfortunately the original sound was not recorded so this is repeated one but I bet is 90% the same. Remember for the futur, that Teams from MS overtakes the microphone and doesn't allow other software to use the input, which I didn't know. Final invitro is recorded here in better quality: youtu.be/RIFMIigusc0 #tutorial #computeshaders #openframeworks
