How to build a 3D raycaster engine from scratch in 200 lines of C++ using the Windows Command Prompt.

With a bit of time on my hands, I decided to have a go at making a 3D engine using nothing but ASCII at the Windows Command Prompt. I was surprised how sophisticated you can be with just 200 lines of hastily written C++ code. This video shows it off, talks about how it works, and you can grab the code from github, or visit my onelonecoder.com blog. What people say. Highly recommended as a fun, accessible starting point for learning raycasting and basic 3D game engine rendering.

I want to do Raycasting (like Wolfenstein 3D), but I don't know where to start lol Recently, I found out that Notch (creator of Minecraft) did some coding streams in the past, and one of them was coding a game called The Prelude of the Chambered. Then I remembered about Wolfenstein 3D and did some research to see if I could find a simple tutorial about doing the same rendering technique, which is called raycasting. The first thing I found was this horrible tutorial, this, and this. But after looking at all of them I realized that it is more complicated than... idk... using a projection matrix to render a cube in 2D (yep, i did this). So, I want to know if there is a way of a beginner i…

On “Where would one even begin if they wanted to build a 3D rendering engine in C?”

…ys start from a light source and add a physical model for surfaces. Or you try to be faster by extrapolating textures on surfaces. Now might be a good point to read up what others were doing. Actually do try it, the math takes like two days and it is amazing fun to draw your own 3D objects on screen. Havent watched this, but maybe interesti g: link to this video…

If you don't want to use a library, the code will have to be platform dependant. You can take a look at this video to see what that would look like in Windows.
